There's just something about brand new bikes that invites collisions. A bike tourist who stayed at my house a few years back related a story about the day he built up a new bike that he had saved his pennies for years to get. On his first ride, he blew through a stop sign at the bottom of a hill and got launched over the hood of a car. Yes, it was 100% his fault, but he still lost his new bike on ride number one.
