I took one of thos out of my Raleigh yesterday. It had not been out for long enough that dried dead bugs spilled across the basement floor when it was removed, and all the grease inside had turned to cement.

To remove it, I used
  • Large adjustable wrench
  • seatpost bolt and nut
  • a freewheel remover as a washer inside the frame
  • another freewheel remover as a washer and to press the side of the wrench against the cup

I didn't think it would work because it seemed to be only about a mm or two of wrench flat to grab, and the sides of the wrench are very slightly bevelled, but it came out quite easily for me.
