If you're doing 2,000-5,000' of climbing on a mountain bike ride, I don't think the century would be a big problem. Don't go into it with expectations of a certain speed, relax a little, take rest stops as needed, eat real food instead of gu if you have a chance. Ride with a friend or two and it makes it easier.
I guess I should get out there and see how climbing is on my road bike. I've genuinely never done more than probably 100ft at a time on a road bike. Like I said, it's all flat around here and if I have time to drive somewhere I'm taking my mountain bike.
