Right. OP, you can get racing tires like 4000S and Pro4 that are sticky, supple and fast because the compound is soft. Or you can get durable tires like Gatorskins which are great to avoiding flats but are sluggish and are for a completely different purpose, or something in between like Lithions and as already said ride like bricks
