They slightly grind on concrete but I can wear these all day and often times do.
I have a pair of those and can't find a thing that I don't like about them. I tried everything last winter to get warm in them. As spring arrived, I found that the inner piece of tape hadn't been installed. This left the two unused bolt holes operating like a couple of vents to let the outside (read COLD) air shoot right to the ball of my foot. I covered the insole with that aluminum HVAC tape and am expecting great improvements this, I live in GA and hate to say, winter season.

The only reason that I have a pair of the touring SPD shoes is that they aren't an awful lot heavier than regular road shoe and about a pound less/pair than the MT-33s. A lean to the weight weenie approach to the road bike.
