DM can be miserable-and expensive 50 CENTS per for test strips(ebay maybe 15 cents)-
plus over time-very very serious-
blindness amputations wounds won't heal odd foot pain MI strokes
Now that horrible stuff-usually takes 10-20-30 years,but..
In any case if I was told-or thought I was prediabetic-
I certainly would try to head it off
Insulin-R insulin was as cheap as $25 per 1000 units-which for a pre diabetic could be as little as 20 cents a day(2 units 4 times)
It would be worth a shot-reasonably safe as medical interventions go
Diet and exercise improve things for many/most-but folks are living longer than they are supposed to
so many develop type 2 DM despite decent diet exercise weight control
Type 1 DM-and autoimmune attack on Beta cells of pancreas-is just "bad luck" for now(maybe precipitated by some pathogen-who knows)
but it MIGHT respond to early intervention also-very early
"Rest" the cells-hope for the best
