+1 I also believe that modern tools have made people mentally lazy. Like muscles, the brain gets weaker if not exercised regularly. Having to think, plan and improvise daily kept (and keeps) us sharp.

I see evidence of that (not proof) when dealing with many younger people who are totally helpless without technology, or in situations where technology can't help.
