Ok, if I decide I want better performance on my tractor-heavy Novara Safari hybrid than the stiff and heavy Conti 700x40c Town Ride tires allow, are the Vittoria Voyager Hyper RFX in 700x38c going to be an appropriate choice for paved road riding? I will coil up the Conti's in my panniers just in case. The bike and gear will weigh 60+ lbs and I weigh 170. Considering the articles I've read about tire performance, there isn't much point in going with a slimmer tire. Can someone suggest a different tire for paved road touring? Thanks
well, I'm 210 lbs, my hybrid weighs about 35 lbs with fenders, rack, etc, so thats about the same total, and the 32c tires work great on it for me, but I have no suspension. I think the Voyager Hyper are the same tires formerly called Rando Hyper, but I'm not 100% sure. absolutely love the reflective sidewall stuff, its REALLY visible at night, ALL bikes should have those. The KEY to a good tire is a high thread count, like 120 TPI.
