Forgive my ignorance about IGH but if I use a Sturmey-Archer 8-sp hub with internal drum brake and a single-speed crankset, do I need any kind of chain guide in front as the chainline is fixed? I'm contemplating this for a foul weather/winter bike.

On a separate note, are IGH hubs sturdy enough for recreational offroad trail use/gravel grinding?
