Tall Prong,

I've seen some quill style pedals on olde European bikes that had a platform (where the soles contact the pedals) of about 3" wide (~75mm).

I just took some measurements on some common pedals, Lyotard 45CA (used on PX-10s), Campagnolo NR/SR/GS and Lyotard 460D and some others. The prongs tend to reduce the useful width of the platforms.

The platforms on the Lyotard 45CA pedals are about 85mm wide (3 3/8").

Campy and similar pedals are about 90mm wide (3 1/2").

Lyotard 460D pedals are about 100mm wide (4").

A lot of MTB pedals from the late 80s, early 90s have 100mm wide platforms too.

I've been wearing size 45 Specialized Sonoma tourist shoes for about 5 years. They are the most comfortable riding shoes I've ever worn. The soles are 105mm at the widest point.

They look like these. I'd love to find another pair.

BTW, I had a total hip replacement about 10 years ago. I use toeclips and straps without cleats. I need to be able to get my feet out quickly in an emergency. Clipless pedals are totally out for me.

They reassembled me crooked! My right foot is angled out about 10°. I use a pedal extender on that side so I need wider pedals.

Feets, do your thing!
