Anyone ever bought essentially the same bike...twice?

Has anyone ever purchased essentially the same bike a second time, albeit with some upgrades? I'm trying to determine if my thought process on a potential purchase is smart, or if I need some sense knocked into me.

The story: I have a '12 model CAAD10 Ultegra that was my first road bike, and although it's been well taken care of mechanically, it's got a lot of "rookie marks" and a ton of miles on it. I like my stuff in pristine condition, and despite my best efforts, it's anything but. So I began to contemplate a new bike, but truth be told, I really dig the bulletproof aluminum frame feel and would easily choose it over an Evo, considering the big cost difference. With a '15 model CAAD10 Ultegra, I gain the longevity of the 11-speed drivetrain, the internal cable routing that results in fewer heart-wrenching paint defects, and with the anodized frame, it'll look better, for longer. It wouldn't be an expensive jump, but I'm afraid I may take a bath selling the current bike, considering its condition. But at the end of the day, it's almost the same bike. Is this just a silly waste of money?
