It's much safer than buying from ebay - if your purchase doesn't come, you get a refund. If it's damaged or not as described, you open a dispute and if the dispute is legit you get a refund. Your money goes into escrow and the seller doesn't get paid until you confirm everything is ok or the dispute is settled. I've heard of many horror stories from ebay, and experienced a few myself. Most, if not all of the Chinese sellers on ebay also sell on Ali, the prices are generally higher on ebay though, and you have to pay for shipping much more often.
