So then I know to pick up my pace. And then I get an update after some amount of time that says that I am now only 1 minute behind the leader, etc.
With a ported segment on my Edge 1000
-I'll get distance-to-segment alerts popups and tones @ 100-150m before a segment
-The segment paths will appear highlighted on the OSM map (riding them or not IIRC).
-Once at segment start, 2 extra screens: segment and virtual partner get enabled.
-You'll get virtual partner cues if the partner finishes before you.
-You'll get a popup at the actual end of the segment telling you how you did compared to KOM/best.
By default the segment screen will show the KOM holder's time at the top, or with a touch your personal best time (only one of these two, you MUST specify the KOM and/or YOUR personal best when porting). By default the 2 data fields at the bottom will show segment-distance to go, and rolling time behind/in-front-of the selected KOM (personal best or KOM)
Virtual partner screen will show by default distance behind selected KOM/personal-best and segment-distance.
NOTE: It is a bit buggy. Highly technical leadups to segment starts and GPS location EPE (error) can bug segment start. Like say a short switchback climb to a MUT T-intersection with the segment start being close to one of the switchback points (I have this scenario locally).
NOTE2: And, as already noted, segment KOMs/personal bests do not auto-update on the device...you must manually re-port the segments (as of now).
NOTE3: Also sometimes I've found the rolling time behind/in-front can be off during a segment, and vary wildly from the finish time displayed on device and Strava/Connect (it is the live rolling lead/follow time that is off).
NOTE4: If you ride with screen lock turned on...and you're not wanting to race segments but ride the loaded routes...you'll get annoyed real quick. You also cannot disable the segment popups en masse entirely while recording a ride.
