Bikes: '96 Litespeed Catalyst, '05 Litespeed Firenze, '06 Litespeed Tuscany, '20 Surly Midnight Special, All are 3x10. It is hilly around here!

You should not need a tool to install the link. Just put it together loosely on the top run of the chain, lock the rear brake and step down on the drive side pedal. The tension of the chain will snap the link closed.
