I have the original 105 7 speed group on my Paramount. The components are painted silver, it's not modern. I've had early-mid 90's LX components. They're black. The colors of modern components aren't anything new. It's just polished aluminum that has gone away for the most part, and like my favorite color of blue, my favorite color of components won't ever recalibrate. My senses drive my preferences, not the decisions of the bicycle industry.
