I am using Shimano, top mount shifters. The left is friction, the right is index.


I'm happy with the feel and placement of the shifters. However, I'd like to "turn off" the indexing for the RD.

This is what the internal mechanism looks like:

The yellow part is a little piece of plastic that slides back and forth when shifting and the notches are part of the shifter housing. I tried removing the yellow piece but the shifter just spins freely with no resistance. I also tried cutting a thick piece of rubber and wedging it in there. This sort of worked but resistance wasn't consistent; sometimes it would hold, but sometimes it would slip.

Is there some way to make this happen?
