I bought a vintage road racer from an old time LBS. I was able to re-use the tape on the new bars I installed. And re-use it again when I changed brake levers. I was seriously impressed. I asked the proprietor of the LBS if he had wrapped the bars and if so what was the tape. He told me it was 'Peleton Tape'. I googled around but couldn't find it so I asked him to get me some. It is made by Avenir actually. Somewhere on the box it does say Peleton Tape but that name isn't prominent. The stuff is CHEAP. Like $9.99 cheap. It looks and feels exactly like leather. It is padded but the padding is very firm. The glue is very strong. I suspect Avenir is moving on from this product. It doesn't seem to be easy to find. I wrapped my Wing Pro bars in Newbaum's (black) cloth tape, and wear padded gloves. I am starting to really like the feel of cloth tape but it has taken a long time. Some people shellac cloth tape, but that is simply way more involvement than I want to have with my bike.
