Bikes: 87 RockHopper,2008 Specialized Globe. Both upgraded to 9 speeds. 2019 Giant Explore E+3

I would have simply gone to 9 speed with a lot more cassette options than 8.
Cassettes are about the same price, although the chain will be a few $ more.
