Airplanes landing gear use the same design principle as a Lefty fork, so its a proven design.

Having one large stanchion instead of two small ones makes it substantially stiffer than most offerings, and having one fork leg means you can change a tube without taking the wheel out of the dropouts. It is also very smooth and simple to service, with a lockout that actually completely locks out the fork.
