When removing nipples to replace them, the rim will want to move especially a light rim with very tight spokes (maybe why they're rounded off in the first place). One trick I use is to lever a cut down broom stick (actually a plunger handle) against the hub to push the rim over and keep the strain of while I replace the nipple.
