There is absolutely zero reference to having to wake up the sensors nor is there any reference anywhere in the manual to this concept (outside of the very last page which references connecting). Note that EVERY ONE of the 19 previous steps can be done without 'sentient sensors'.
It's fairly easy to surmise that the sensors aren't that "sentient" (it would consume much more power than necessary and isn't really a useful feature). No wireless bicycle sensor (ANT+ and others) work that way.
