I keep most of my larger bike components (cranksets, handlebars, saddles, etc) in plastic storage bins that I routinely find in the street on trash day. I'm not overly meticulous with large parts because they are easy to find. I am much more organized when it comes to small parts... I can't stand foraging through boxes for tiny parts so I have to keep them organized. Here are my small parts bins:
