Get yourself some Armadillo tires, Mr Tuffy tire liners and thorn resistant tubes.
Not cheap with everything, I'm glad I bought Specialized Armadillo and Specialized thorn resistant tubes. It certainly beats patching or replacing tubes in the dark or in the cold!
