In my mind this is absurd, the regional parks system here charges for auto entrance, not for walk ins or riders..this promotes a lot of physical activity rather than a lot of profits it seems, and the areas parks do manage to get by without a lot of hoopla.. I understand a fee for autos, the amount of wear and tear alone warrants a fee of some sort, then factor in carbon emissions and yada yada.. they really should promote people being able to access these public resources for free, after all it's not the citizens fault the bureaucrats insist on a "budget" that exceeds their revenue and that parks should suffer for this.. as has been mentioned many times already in this thread, this is public land entrusted to the government to care for.
