No, it doesn't affect the bike. Bicycle technology has changed very little in the last few decades. Certain trends seem to be cyclical (pun intended). Since I started working on bikes in the '70's, gears have gone from a few to many, back to a few again. Tires have gone from skinny to fat to skinny to fat again. I bet if you point at any "innovation" in the last 5 years, I can point to it appearing at least twice previously.

If your bike rolls, shifts, and fits you comfortably, go ride it. You'll be fine.
