It is a good thing. You do seem to worry 'bout your bike a lot though.

As far as chains go a good chain can help quiet down your drivetrain and potentially need to be replaced less. If you take care of your chain (cleaning and lubing with bike lube) you can get more life out of it just be careful and don't get your fingers caught in the cog. SRAM PC-1 is said to be a noisy chain and not worth it. For the money I like my Miché Pista Chain but one of the mechs at my shop likes KMC chains. Your best bet is something like the Izumi Super Toughness which is expensive but very durable and quiet and if you are into Keirin/NJS stuff it is one of the chains they use.
