Tailor, amazing stories!

brianinc-ville, you brought back a memory. My mother used to rent a summer house on Fire Island. It's a place with no motor vehicles, and no one wore shoes. A friend of hers would loan us two bikes every summer. The were women's bikes, and my sister and I learned to ride them even though they were too big. One might have been classed as a beach cruiser, though I don't remember the tires being super fat. It was blue and had a coaster brake. The other was a dark English three-speed, and it was my first bike with hand brakes. I remember one summer, when my friend and I were about eight, he got the idea that Vaseline was good for bikes, so we smothered the entire exteriors of our bikes with it. I remember no ill effects from it except that it made the hand grips slippery. Fire Island was a safe place, so we kids would leave the house for hours by ourselves. Thanks for bringing back a sweet memory.
