The "actual write up" from "Cycling Plus" indicates that the padlock supplied with the Fahgettaboudit is far less resistent to cutting than the highest scoring padlocks. My personal view is that the Fahgettaboudit padlock is a clear disappointment when compared to the best padlocks.

It seems odd that Kryptonite would combine their "state of the art" chain with a padlock that is inferior to the best padlocks from Abus, and that is inferior to other Kryptonite padlocks.

These are the comments from the "Cycling Plus" editors:

- Abus Granit (Note: the tested padlock appears to be the 37/55 padlock): "....the padlock: it blunted our hacksaw and the battery disk cutter burnt through discs with barely a scratch to the surface."

- OnGuard Beast padlock: "After 15 minutes of powertool abuse half of one side of the shackle was cut, and the metal cutting disc ruined....you are looking at least an hour to get through it".

- OnGuard enclosed shackle padlock: "you just can't get a saw or disc cutter in there..."

- Kryptonite EV Disk Lock: "...after a quarter of an hour we'd got through".

- Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit padlock: "...after 3 minutes 56 seconds we cut one half of 1 side, it took a little over eight minutes to cut both".

SUMMARY OF TIME REQUIRED TO CUT PADLOCK:

- Abus Granite: cutting tools can not penetrate shackle

- OnGuard shielded padlock: impossible to attack shackle with cutting tool

- OnGuard Beast padlock: lasts one hour against power cutting tools

- Kryptonite EV Disk Lock: lasts fifteen minutes against power cutting tools

- Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit padlock: lasts eight minutes against power cutting tools

If you have a Fahgettaboudit chain, and you want to KEEP your bike, forget about "loss of warranty coverage" and start worrying about "loss of your bike". Add an Abus Granit padlock to your Fahgettaboudit chain. Your bike won't get stolen. And, you will never need Kryptonite's insurance policy.
