Are they off the bike? If they are, try coming at them from the back side. Unscrew the spring loaded cylinders (use an allen wrench if needed), put the pods in a padded vice, and use a wooden dowel and a hammer and try to tap them out from the back.

Sounds like you know what you're doing. Take your time - these are definately worth saving.
