I just switched from Speedplay Zeros to a pair of Ultegra pedals. I did it mostly because I wanted to try something different. I was also a little annoyed with the constant creaking of the pedals anytime any dirt at all got on the cleat. In fact, the care that they need is a little tough here because most of the places I ride are narrow roads with dirt shoulders. Anytime you are stopping on the side of the road, you are in dirt. Speedplays are not friendly with dirt. Also, I found in general that the cleats get dirty very easily. Maybe it's just me, but they just seem like a lot of hassle, and if I can get as good of a feeling with SPD-SL which seem to require less maintenance (I think?) then it's a win/win.

Of course, maybe I will end up hating the Ultegras and be back with the Speedplays. I did like the way they road overall. Just wasn't a fan of their finickiness.
