I wasn't using any sunglasses. Took it out of the box and walked outside with it. I have also read in the mio dedicated forums of a few others who agreed that the unit is unreadable at zero back light - it's just doesnt seem to be true sun-light readable like the Garmin GPSMAP 62s and the Garmin Oregon 600.
