+1 on the FSA Vero or Tempo. Acetone will remove the decals.

shimano RSX (I have had 48/36 and 46/36)

square taper MTB triple, minus the inner ring (often good for a 48/36, and a cheap way in)

I absolutely love compact cranks. 50/34 and a 7-speed 11/28 cassette is all you will ever need on a road bike, unless you're doing the Fred Whitton or something else daft.
