One could say the
opposite.
Imagine you are a bike or component maker, you are proud of what you do, and you want to be associated with the best in cycling, so you may decide to make an arrangement with a professional team. You may decide that giving them your product is worth the cost, but you have some self-respect and want people to know about your association, so you make sure your name is visible. But if you are particularly proud of your work, you probably don't want it associated with poorly maintained equipment that collects dust in suburban garages when it isn't being ridden by some mashing slob at 10mph in top gear. You might think "I don't want my name associated with that, ever." But most companies want to make money, so instead, they say, "you'd have to PAY me to put my name on that." And people do, gladly.
