I am thinking about this. And I wonder... who are the "we" and what exactly is "better off"?

As a cyclists... would I/we have more road space available if there was (whatever percent of) fewer private cars? I can't see how even a 50% reduction in automobile traffic would make that big of difference. I've cycled in early morning hours on weekends with nearly no traffic and at rush hour evening on Friday. I prefer the weekends... but enjoy both.

I don't think I'd see my family and loved ones NEARLY as much without "private cars". So in many ways... life would suck a little bit.
