Shimano's "3.3.3" and Suntour's "8.8.8" logos were styled after the British marque "BSA" (Birmingham Small Arms).
Why "3.3.3" and "8.8.8" were chosen was because they kinda looked simular to "BSA" from a distance.
At the time imported BSA bicycles and motorcycles were quite highly regarded in Japan.
