Yeah, but the term predates electronic ones, so why the redundance. I have assumed it referred to the shifting "mechanisms" rather than the shift levers. But the levers are mechanisms as are the brake calipers and for that matter also the headset, bottom bracket, crank, and pedals. Like I said, I don't get it.
