People can do well on either approach. I read more blogs and journals than you can shake a stick at and have not found solid evidence that low fat is better or worse than LCHF. I think the only advice virtually everyone agrees on is that keeping sugar to a minimum and limiting processed foods are important regardless of your macro orientation. As to "forcing your body into carb starvation to burn fat," that is a very rare approach not common to the vast majority of low carbers. It is true that The New Atkins recommends such a low level for the first few weeks but not after. I started at a higher level ~50 grams a day and for the past two years am over 100g a day with no weight gain. I go this route because I like the foods and thus have no problem sticking with the eating life style. Someone who likes vegetables and grains and finds it easy to keep weight down with that approach should go that route. A bit of self experiment is in order. Don't accept what I say or what someone else says, study for yourself and try a few approaches untill you find one that works for you.
