2AA or AAA batteries should last a long time . particularly on a summer tour. Just Get a battery mounted Rear rack Light , IMHO.

I see what you are saying and to a point I agree. However I do a lot of commuting and I also tend to ride places with power at points and get to camp before it gets too dark. I do have some battery powered rear lights as well. Plus I do plan on doing some solar paneling to add a bit of power.

I might take a look at the Planet Bike light.
