A pic would help. You can bend the wire any way you want to help position the mirror appropriately. Here's a pic of how I bent the wire near the mount to position the mirror higher than it would be if left as it came from the store. Don't bend it where the brass tubing is.
I didn't realize it was OK to bend the wire. I'll try pointing mine in the opposite direction to what you did in the photo, to bring the mirror down closer to my eye. (Or actually I should do exactly the same, since the helmet-mounted variation has the retainers pointing upside-down.)
