It's pretty simple: If it's 100 miles or more in a day, it's a century
If it's 200 miles or more, it's a double century. And if it's 100 km or more, you can call it a metric century (which this thread is not about). Anything less and it's not a century or a double century, just like a run of 25 miles / 40 km is not a marathon but just a long distance run.
