Used to be called the Best Day Ever, and I think someone complained.
A neighborhood ride that's gotten national attention. You ride a circuit of about 4.6 miles, and collect bonus points per lap, per deed, and per experience. For example, you get bonus points for carrying two buckets of dirt to a rooftop garden, shooting hoops for 5 minutes at a neighborhood youth center, seeing the sunset from a certain place (changes every year), sunrise from a certain bridge, having a beer at a bodega, getting a tattoo, a massage (not the happy ending kind), a haircut, helping an old lady, etc. You basically ride for 24 hours and embrace the folks who live there, and they embrace you. Bands play (some really bad ones). One or two people actually race it, but for the most part, it's an experience. Started by a school teacher who was tired of the bad press his neighborhood was getting, the experiences he had while cycling there, and decided to do something about it. It's changed the way cyclists are viewed in the area, and changed the way cyclists view the area, bridged a few gaps between people who would otherwise never probably speak to each other, much less participate in anything together.
