I have seen a similar tower on the Eastern Shore of MD. All of the locals called it a lime kiln, used to burn oyster and clam shells down to usable agricultural lime. I don't know if that is legend or fact.
This is Carlisle. I asked a local resident who happened to be walking by about a different building across the road, this one:
She didn't know but volunteered that there was mining in Carlisle in the 1700's, and lime deposits. But she figured this tower to be newer than that.
