It will be fine for 90% of the riding that you could do. If your regular ride involves bouncing over head-size rocks at high speed, then get suspension. Otherwise, suspension is a whole bunch of dead weight, cost, mechanical complexity and it introduces energy-sapping suspension bob. And knobby tires will slow you down by several miles per hour, and their noise will drive you crazy on the road.
Don't fuss too much about your first bike, as you will get the wrong size (even if you get the advice of an experienced shop), you will crash it, and it will be stolen. Based on accumulated experience, the third bike will be a keeper.
