Go ahead and loosen the cable at the adjuster, all the way. Just remember to tighten it back up until they are almost touching after you tighten the wheel in place...... Stronger fingers would just squeeze it tighter...... LOL
edit: if the barrel adjuster at the handle is already screwed all the way in, it's OK to loosen the cable at the pinch bolt, for a tad extra play - then it will be easier next time. Just make sure to tighten it back up.
By the way, that's one of the reasons for the adjuster. And, you did pull on the cable end, to stretch it, right?
