The carbon seat post will be much lighter. You already spent a lot of money for a carbon frame, so why not continue and keep it light. The aluminum seat post could be 1/2 the wight of the frame.
The weight difference can be minimal and if you have a seatpost that weighs half of your frame's weight, it must be made of steel bar stock. My Thomsons weigh right around 200 grams and if you have a 400 gram frame i'd like to see it.
