They are great cranks......I have 2 of them that I use as compact cranks. They have been around sinc ehte 70's and longer. In the 80's I had a Sugino MAxy crank that I rode for 10 years with no problem. I would look at the Bottom bracket, not the crank. I have seen the Sugino/Specialized triple crank (had one last year before going to a compact) and it worked fine. Now tha quality of the BB might be suspect. I always use a Shimano UN-51 or UN-71. Though I am riding a Nashbar/stronglight on one bike and it seems to be holding up rather well.
