47-14 ratio kicking my *&%*&$

My converted fixed gear currently has a 47-14 ratio (only this is because these are the sizes that came on my cranks and my flip-flop and because I didn't know any better). I find this ratio a bit too high - it is hard to start and stop, but I like the top end.

I should also say that my fixed gear is relatively heavy (both overall and rotating weight) as I'm running 700x32c tires. To compensate, I have 175 mm crank arms.

What ratio do youse folks recommend for a dweeb newbie like me? Also, who is a good source of replacement rear cogs. Finally, my chain-line isn't spot on - does it matter?

Thanks!
