A bit of caution, if you are going to switch to a BSC steerer and headset, be aware that the French quill stem is a little undersize for a BSC steerer. While it will fit and tighten up just fine, it will put additional pressure inside the steerer where the split wedge tightens against the inside wall of the steerer tube. I did this on my bike when I replaced the original fork with a BSC fork (and BB). Years later the steerer split along the steerer groove (which in this case extended over where the split wedge was positioned inside the steerer). I still use the French quill stem with a BSC fork, but the fork I am using was cut (and a few threads added) so the groove is very short and does not extend down where the stem split wedge tightens inside of the steerer.
Thanks for the heads up....I have a 22.2 stem im going to use on it...id rather just keep it french but Im not sure the fellow who is doing the work has the french threading die??
Whats my best option do you think? Keep it french threaded or go britches thread?
