Hahaha I kid. Thanks for your perspective though - when it comes to fatigue and "freshness" there is certainly more to the picture than your training alone would dictate. Sometimes I forget these things; I'm a new power user so it's easy for me to get caught up and forget the bigger picture.
For a moment I considered not racing this weekend, or really not at all until late Feb. I just wasn't quite where I wanted to be, fitness wise, I thought. But after some more consideration, I realize that I shouldn't just wait for the stars to align with my fitness and racing goals; life gets in the way. Sickness, injury, work stress, relationship stress, whatever - life happens. I slept on it and decided that the time to race is now! Go and and give it what I got.
If things go as planned (training AND the rest of my actual life...), I should only get better as the season goes on.
one cool thing about racing ASAP is that some things will likely go right and some may go very wrong, but you'll find out about them in january instead of, say, april, and you have time to work on them and adjust your goals.
i'm a fan of racing early for many reasons, but this is a great one. since RR'ing is such a low-probability thing in terms of a win (i.e., rarely does the absolute strongest guy in the field actually come away with the win assuming everyone's racing an appropriate category...usually takes a risk to get a win + being "strong enough"), waiting until we feel fully prepared just reduces our chances.
good luck out there--have fun!
