Vintage Sturmey Archer GC3A Shifter Help - Cable Dislodged Inside

I've got the HC3A shifter on a bike. I have the 31 page SA vintage service manual with instructions & schematics for insertion/ removal of cable into shifter. Problem I think is that while fiddling with things I dislodged the tip from its secure attachment spot inside the shifter and that end of the cable is hung up inside there.

I've slowly moved the lever to various positions with a flashlight looking inside to see if I can see the tip. According to the instructions I can remove the pawl spring safely. I presume then the pawl would have unrestricted movement and I might be able to get the end of the cable where I can see it.

This is an old SA cable in great condition so I don't want to cut the cable and risk the tip rattling around inside the shifter & causing problems.

I've done searches, looked for videos to no avail. I even have the patent drawing for this thing.
